Marks and Spencer were launching a new single malt whisky, originating from the beautiful Scottish Speyside foothills. A distinctive design was required to bring to mind the heritage and quality of the drink.
It was important for the Speyside foothills and the River Spey to be depicted on-pack. The area is traditionally popular with generations of fly fishermen, so I created a character casting his fishing rod and the Speyside type flowing from the line. I briefed the talented scraperboard artist Fred van Deelen, who brought the scenic illustrations to life. Gold foiling gives the final label a touch of elegance. Marks and Spencer have released Speyside Whisky in various sizes - on 70cl bottles, right down to tiny 5cl tasters, gift sets and glasses. It has become a popular tipple of choice!
